The community of Orange, Texas is the seat of the county of the same name, and had a 2010 population of 18,600. Located on the border of Texas and Louisiana, the Sabine River, Orange is also a deep-water port to the Gulf of Mexico. In 1836, the village was founded by a river boat captain, and the location on the river allowed the township to grow. During World War I, the area gained shipbuilding industry and experienced a growth boom before being hit with the Great Depression, only to enjoy another boom when the US Navy built shipyards and residential areas for servicemen in the town. This Naval station remained for decades and was only decommissioned in 2008 after extensive damage from Hurricane Ike.
Though frequently hit by hurricanes during the twenty-first century, the town continues to survive and grow, owing to the resilience of local residents and business owners. Today, Orange, Texas and surrounding areas have a lot to offer both residents and visitors.
